Harold Albert Kabay, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at DHR Hospital in Edinburg, Texas. Harold was born December 19, 1938 in South Bend, IN to Albert and Fannie (Rose) Kabay. On July 11, 1964 at Maple Grove Church in South Bend, he married Phyllis Jean Goodspeed. Harold and Phyllis were married 54 years before Phyllis passed away in January 2019.

Harold is survived by his children, son Brian (Crystal) Kabay, daughter Karman Eash, and son DeWayne Kabay. He is also survived by grandchildren James Kabay, Isaac & Lucy Eash (Owen & Otto), Aryn & Jacob Good (Levi), Marina Lindsey (Parker), Summer Dean, and Sydney Edgerton; sister, Bessie Alward, sisters-in-law Mary Sue (Ron) Albers and Nancy (Brad) Milliken; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, his parents, sister Mary Jones, brother Edward Kabay, mother-in-law Wilma Paar, fathers-in-law Byron Goodspeed and Leo Paar and brothers-in-law Gilbert Jones, John Goodspeed and Jim Alward.

Harold served honorably in the United States Navy from June 1956 to November 1959. Following his naval career, he used his training in electronics first at Bendix Corporation, then IBM, where he retired after almost 29 years of service, and then Robison Electric. During retirement, Harold enjoyed camping, travelling and spending time with his family and friends. He spent 19 wonderful retirement years with Phyllis travelling throughout the country, settling as a winter Texans in Donna, Texas for the last 20 years.

Harold was a member of multiple Lions Clubs over his lifetime, putting many hours into the service organization. He was also a long-time member of Maple Grove Community Church in South Bend.

Cremation took place in Texas and a memorial service will be planned for a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the donor’s choice organization in honor of Harold
