Penny Richardson (Rodefer) - Class Of 1970

Penny Richardson (Rodefer)

Penny A. (Richardson) Rodefer

July 5, 1952 ~ November 18, 2023 (age 71)

Penny Richardson-Rodefer, 71, of Mishawaka IN, went to fly with the angels on November 18th, 2023. Her family was by her side at the time.

Her life began on July 5, 1952, in South Bend, IN.  She was the daughter of Daniel W Richardson and Bernice (Berchie) Jena-Richardson.  She was the second child born to them.  Raised on Park Avenue in the Leeper Park area, she often reminisced about the wonderful childhood she had there.  She often said that she wished her own children could have grown up in the same atmosphere that she did.

Penny attended Madison grade school and was a member of the last class to graduate from the old Central High School.  Many lifelong friendships were formed there.  Penny went on to a lifetime of positions in the medical field, from medial assistant to office manager, to nighttime ER secretary for almost 20 years at SJRMC-South Bend.

Penny married Fredric (Rick) Rodefer, her best friend and the love of her life, on June 3rd, 1983. He survives her. To this union, 3 children were born. Nicholas Rodefer, Danielle Johnson (Ben) of Houston, TX, and Beau Rodefer, and one brother, Michael J Richardson, South Bend.  Six grandchildren; Kailyn Hartman of Tuscaloosa, AL, Zoe, Uri, Ellaree, Ezra Johnson-all of Houston and Isabella Rodefer of SB.  Her "babies" were the light of her life.  Also surviving are her nephew Brian Richardson (Amy) and Mara and Brady and niece Jaime Howard and her son Caleb Howard and numerous cousins, sister-in-law Melanie Richardson and brother-in-law Terrell (Terry) Rodefer of Van Nuys, CA. Step-brother-in-law Steve (Sue) Thompson of Niles. Lucy, her fur-ever friend, was always by her side.

Penny's favorite pastimes included any time spent with her family, puzzles, gardening and bingo (much to Rick's dismay).  She and Rick were content spending time together watching his cowboy shows or her game shows. There was never an Alabama game (Roll Tide) missed.

The family would like to thank her medical team for the past 6 years-Drs Higgs-Coulthard, Guentert, Sandler, Quate, Sarah and Laura.  Numerous friends- Dee, Judy, Michele, Sue, Barb, Kelly, Roxanne, Carol, and Teri could always be counted on if help was needed.

In keeping with Penny’s wishes, cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home- Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
