Michael Dennis Madigan

MISHAWAKA - Michael Dennis "Mike" Madigan, 60, of Mishawaka, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 10, 2009.
He was born March 29, 1948, in Ohio, a son of Mary Ellen Madigan and the late John Madigan Sr.
Mr. Madigan believed in life long learning. After receiving an undergraduate degree from Indiana University South Bend, he moved his family to New Zealand in 1974 to pursue a graduate degree at the University of Auckland. He spent 15 years there, raising a family and operating the first Mexican restaurant in New Zealand.
In 1990 the family returned to the South Bend area, where he pursued a graduate degree in teaching from Indiana University.
Mr. Madigan worked at Bendix School as a Special Education Teacher and was a Sunday school teacher at St. Monica's Catholic Church in Mishawaka, where he was a member.
An avid reader, political activist and world traveler, his thirst for knowledge was never ending. At Bendix School, he loved to challenge his students to understand the concepts behind the material and encouraged them to never stop learning. A proud Republican, he volunteered in multiple campaigns. During his summers off he shared his love of travel with his family exploring the wonders of the world.
A proud and devoted father, grandfather, brother and son, he is survived by two daughters, Terra (Jeff) Morauski, Shauna (James) Burnes, two sons, Ryan Madigan and Jason Madigan and two grandchildren, Alexander Burnes and Kala Morauski. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Catherine Madigan, Bridget (Fred) Zalcman and three brothers, John, Martin and Daniel (Jody) Madigan.
Visitation will be today, March 13th from 6-8 p.m. at Bubb Funeral Chapel in Mishawaka. A rosary will be said at 6:30 pm today in the funeral chapel.
A service and Mass will be held at St. Monica Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Saturday. Donations may be made to St. Monica's in his name.
