MISHAWAKA - Tonia M. Matney, 65, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2013, at Michiana Health & Rehab, Mishawaka, IN.

Tonia was born on March 9, 1948, in South Bend, IN, to David and Emily Alberta (Crabtree) Matney, and remained a lifelong resident. Tonia graduated from Indiana University with her Engineering degree. She worked as a computer engineer at Electro Voice in Buchanan, MI. Tonia was part of the team that patented Talk Tech for the space shuttle. Tonia is survived by her sister, Victoria Means of Mishawaka; Victoria's daughter, Michelle (Jon) Sharp, who Tonia raised like a daughter; & Michelle's four children, Liberty, Justice, Glory and Honor, who she treated as her grandchildren. Tonia was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Matney Jr.; and her nephew, David Means.

Memorial services and gathering of friends will be from 4-7 PM Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Whispering Pines Community Room, 806 Green Pine Court, Mishawaka. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, South Bend, and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
