Terry Craig “TC” Hunt of Granger, IN passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021. Terry was born on June 21, 1948, in South Bend to the late Russell Lewis and Jane (Yockey) Hunt. He resided in Indiana most of his life but also spent several years in Vandalia, MI on Donnell Lake.

Terry was united in marriage with Karen Clauson on April 24, 1971. Together they had two children, Daniel (Erica) Hunt of Elkhart, IN and Debra (Michael) Shepard of Noblesville, IN. Terry is also survived by his five beloved grandchildren, who he loved deeply: Noah Hunt, Carter Hunt, Ella Hunt, Jaxon Shepard, and Jace Shepard; his sister, Cheryl (Bob) Uyhelji; and his brother-in-law, Jim (Linda) Clauson. Terry was also loved by his nieces and nephews, Tracy, Jamie (Martin), Robert (Crystal), Christopher, Bryan, Erick (Ellen), and Sean (Stacey). Terry was preceded in death by both of his parents, his mother-in-law, Patricia Clauson, as well as his nephew, Clayton Wooldridge.

Terry graduated in 1966 from South Bend Central High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army.  He achieved the rank of Warrant Officer, received his helicopter license, served in Vietnam and later became a Chief Warrant Officer (CW04). Terry was active in the Army Reserves after returning from Vietnam and retired as a CW04 after 31 years of service. Terry was then called to serve his community and was sworn into the Indiana State Police Department. Terry first began his career in Lake County and then moved to St Joseph County working as a master trooper at the Indiana Toll Road, Northern St Joseph County Patrol and special projects. Terry retired in 2000 after 28 years of service. After retirement, Terry continued his passion for the community and was deputized as a US Marshall to serve at the courthouse for several years. Terry’s final calling was to work as a Pilot for Memorial Hospital’s Air Ambulance service, Air Angels/Medflight. This was such an impactful position which he enjoyed working alongside many friends.

Terry loved boating, living on the lake, watching football, listening to music, and was an avid reader. He has impacted many individuals throughout his callings and will be remembered for his boisterous personality, family devotion, dedication to his friends, and his generous heart.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00pm Friday, November 19, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Homes-Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Rd, South Bend 46635. Friends may visit with the family starting at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to give extra thanks to all the dedicated staff at Center for Hospice for their care and kindness which allowed him to be home with his family during his last moments.

Douglas Edward King (1966)

Terry was a friend.  The world could sure use more people like him.
