LOIS J. (BARNETT) HANNA

SOUTH BEND - Lois Jean Hanna died on January 15, 2012, in Brooksville, Florida. She was 84 years old. Lois was born on August 21, 1927. She grew up in South Bend, Indiana, to John A. and Fern (McGuire) Barnett.

She graduated from Central High School, and in 1948 earned a degree in Journalism at Franklin College, Franklin, Indiana.

She married Robert E Hanna, a printer at the South Bend Tribune. In 1956 the couple moved to Darmstadt, Germany, where he was employed by Stars and Stripes. She attended a nearby Ball State University extension campus and earned a Master's Degree in Counseling. She worked five years as a clinical supervisor for the U.S. Army drug and alcohol program. The couple returned to the Midwest in 1979. They lived 17 years in Decatur, Michigan, where she worked as a limited licensed psychologist and certified social worker at Van Buren County Community Mental Health.

After they retired, the couple moved to Florida. He died in 2005. They had been married 57 years.

Lois is survived by her two daughters, Roberta E. Van Sickle of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and Luanne K. Hanna of Antelope, California. She also has 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

In accordance with Lois' wishes, there will be no funeral service. The National Cremation Society is in charge of arrangements. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 12260 Cortez Boulevard, Brooksville, FL 34613.
