LEWIS BERMAN DIES AT AGE 51 Played Lead Role In Musical Last Summer
Lewis Berman, 51, of 1826 Campeau St., a partner in the Swank Dry Cleaning Co., died at 10:45 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Hospital after an illness of three weeks. Berman last summer appeared in the lead male role of the musical "Milk and Honey," produced by Presbyterian Players, winning critical acclaim for his portrayal of a "Prince of a man."
He was born Dec. 14, 1917, in South Bend, and married Helen New, June 19, 1947, in South Bend.
She survives, with a son, Joseph, and two daughters, Margaret and Susan, all at home. Also surviving are two brothers, Joseph and Dr. Ralph Berman, both of South Bend; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Fisher, Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Ann Gaimes, Sarasota, Fla., Mrs. Mitzie Lillow, San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Esther George, North Hollywood, Calif.
Services were to be today in the Forest G. Hay & Son funeral Home, Rabbi Jacob S. Bergman of the Sons of Israel Congregation, officiating. Burial will be in Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka.
Mr. Berman was a veteran of World War II and was a member of B'nai B'rith, Sinai Synagogue and South Bend Lodge 235, BPOE.
