Nicholas J. Augustine, 58, of 815 W. 14th St., Mishawaka, a former South Bend resident, died at 12:30 a.m. today in his residence after a brief illness.

He had owned the Aktive Sales and Service Co. 20 years. He was born on Feb. 9, 1914, in LaPorte, and had lived in South Bend most of his life.

On March 15, 1945, in Augusta, Ga., he married Agnes M. Perry, who survives with two sons, James E. of South Bend, and John W., at home; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Jane) Atkinson of Terre Haute, Ind.; a grandchild; four brothers, Dominic, Thomas, and Patrick, all of South Bend, and John of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and five sisters, Mrs. Catherine Neisen and Mrs. Mary Kellams, both of California, Miss Josephine Augustine and Mrs. Francis Gillespie, both of Kokomo, and Mrs. Theresa Harmon of Niles.

A brother, Samuel, died on June 1.
