FLORENCE E. (BECHERT) ROBERTS

June 24, 1913 - July 19, 2008
SOUTH BEND - Florence E. Roberts, 95, of North Meade Street, passed away on Saturday, July 19, after a lengthy illness. She was born June 24, 1913, to Otto and Elizabeth (Rajski) Bechert in South Bend. She had lived her entire life in the area and graduated from Central High School in 1931. She worked briefly at Wilson Brothers before marrying Stanley J. Roberts on August 15, 1936. He died in 1988. Florence was also preceded in death by an infant son, and by a brother, Edward W. Bechert.

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Anderson of South Bend; her son, William E. (Mary) Roberts of South Bend; four grandchildren, Elisa (John) Gouker and Mark (Terri) Roberts of South Bend, Jeff (Cindy) Parsons of Dowagiac, Michigan, and John (Marie) Parsons of Dansville, Michigan. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.

Florence joined Epworth Memorial Methodist Church in approximately 1925 and thus was a member for 83 years. She loved to cook and sew, and her homemade pies, noodles and crepes will be long remembered. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and playing her piano. She saved her sheet music like gold and "tickled the ivories" almost every day.

Funeral services will be held today, July 21st, at 3:00 p.m. in Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church, 2404 Lincoln Way West, with Rev. Sergio Pereira officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call in the church today from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church, 2404 Lincoln Way West, South Bend IN 46628; or to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
