SOUTH BEND - Leslie Carl Baumgartner, 75, of South 33rd Street, died at 5:52 p.m. Thursday in his home after an illness.
Mr. Baumgartner retired after 25 years as an alcoholic beverage salesman. He was born June 5, 1917, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.
On June 3, 1944, in South Bend, he married Ruth E. Linderman. She survives with a daughter, Joan Steinmetz of South Bend; a son, James L. of South Bend; seven grandchildren; a great grandson; and a sister, Helen Massey of Mishawaka.
He was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, Ushers Club of the church, a founder and coach of the Inter-City Catholic League of the church, and a member of Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council 553, William Penn Club, South Bend Eagles, and South Bend Civic and Democratic Club. He served as a Democratic precinct committeeman for more than 40 years, and was a graduate of the former Central High School.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 2 to 6. p.m. Sunday in Hickey Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd.
