SOUTH BEND - William Nicholas Antonis, 81, of South Bend, died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2010, in Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Mr. Antonis was born November 18, 1928, in South Bend, to the late Nick K. and Irene (Florakis) Antonis, and was a lifetime area resident. He is survived by his sister, Aliki Katsaris. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Themistocles Katsaris.

After graduating from South Bend Central High School in the class of 1945, he attended Purdue University where in 1948 he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later attended the University of Notre Dame Law School from which he was awarded the degree, Dr. of Jurisprudence. From 1954 until his retirement in 1993 William was a patent attorney for the Bendix, Allied, Allied-Signal, and Honeywell corporations during which time he attained the position of Chief Patent Counsel.

William was a lifelong member of St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church, serving on the parish council numerous times. He was a pillar of his church and was honored as "Godfather" of the Good Samaritan Cultural Center and of St. Andrew's Church. In 1983 he was honored by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and the Diocese of Chicago with the Medal of St. Paul in recognition for faithful and dedicated service. Among other memberships, he was also a member of the Order of AHEPA. William was a generous, considerate, quiet and private person, who enjoyed his family, home and close friends. He will be greatly missed by his beloved sister and his many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 3rd, in St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church, 52455 Ironwood Road, with Rev. George Knonstantopoulos officiating. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Thursday, September 2nd, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., where a Trisagion service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Andrew's Endowment Fund, 52455 Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN 46635.
