GEORGE AVON

Aug. 5, 1933 - Dec. 19, 2013
SOUTH BEND - Gone to celebrate Christmas with his wife in The Most Perfect Place is George A. Avon, 80, who passed away Thursday evening, December 19, with his devoted daughter at his side. George was born on August 5, 1933 to George A. and Elizabeth (Rozpovits) Avon, who preceded him in death. He was a lifelong resident of South Bend. To those fortunate to have known him, George was a humble man of great character. He endured relentless adversity with his health in recent years, courageously facing each challenge with dignity and grace. His spirit was something to be admired, and his strength and determination were an inspiration to many.

On July 19, 1952, George married the love of his life, Marilyn Jean (Frye), who left to make a place for him in Heaven on November 5, 2012. Together they had a daughter, Susan Marie Quimby of South Bend, who survives along with her husband Stan. George adored his wife and daughter, and to them he was a hero.

He found true enjoyment in his life's work, serving as Vice President of Marketing for I. T. Equipment, Inc., of South Bend and Plymouth, where he was employed for over 41 years. George was an avid sports fan and particularly loved "his" Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Mr. Avon was a graduate of South Bend Central High School and South Bend College of Commerce and proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

A memorial service celebrating George's life will be held Monday, January 6th at 6 PM, with visitation one hour prior, at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR23; enter off Cherry Rd. Cremation has taken place with interment at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial donations in George's honor may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN 46617, whose compassionate care was so deeply appreciated.
