March 28, 1931 ~ February 12, 2024 (age 92)

Patricia A. Zurat, 92, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024 in Memorial Hospital.

Patricia was born in South Bend on March 28, 1931 to the late and Sophie (Wegenka) and Sidney Bartoszek.  On June 23, 1951 Patricia married the love of her life, Richard John Zurat, who passed away on June 29, 1995. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Leona McKnight, Loretta Catalano, Lucille Hogan; brothers, John, Paul; and many sisters & brothers-in-law.

Left to cherish the memories of Patricia are her daughters whom she was so proud of, Rosanne (Bruce) Klem, Michelle (Jim) Niespodziany, Jane (Doug) Szlanfucht, and Joan (Todd) Melser; grandchildren, Matthew, Alea, Mikala, Jordan, Abbey, Joel, Brady, Lauren, Christen; and 15 great-greatgrandchildren.

Patricia was a 1949 graduate of Central High School. She worked for many years as an Executive Secretary at the Torrington Corporation. Patricia was a parishioner at St. Hedwig, Holy Family, and St. Matthews throughout her lifetime.  Patricia was avid Notre Dame football fan. She loved to travel and go on group bus tours, including one in Europe. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends the “Barcus Babes” and family. She did not have a mean bone in her body. She was nonjudgemental to all. Patricia always had prayers of concern for her family. Her life was devoted to her family.  Patricia will be truly missed.

The family of Patricia would like to give a special thanks to the loving care that she received from her caretakers at Home by the Dome and Heart-to-Heart Hospice during the last month of her life.

Visitation for Patricia will be 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, February 19, 2024 in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 20, 2024 in St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 331 S. Scott St., South Bend, IN with a one-hour visitation prior to the mass in the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made in honor of Patricia to the Heart-to-Heart Hospice of Northern Indiana, 620 Edison Rd. Ste 122 Mishawaka, IN 46545.
