Geraldine (Woods) Nicholes

March 11, 1936 ~ July 16, 2020 (age 84)

Mom closed her eyes for the last time on Thursday afternoon, July 16, 2020. She passed away peacefully, so peacefully and now awaits to be among the first to arise with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Born on March 11, 1936 to James and Maude (Scruggs) Woods, Sr. in South Bend, mom was the youngest and last surviving of 8 children. Mom and her siblings attended Central High School in South Bend.

She often told the story of her high school experience. She’d say “while in 11th grade, they told my brother Gerald that he was being put out of school, so I walked straight to that principal’s office and told them, well I quit too, because that’s my twin brother and if he has to go, so do I!”

Mom married Henry Nicholes and they raised 5 children before divorcing. Mom worked various jobs before starting with RACO in South Bend from which she retired following 30 years with them. Mom was known for her generosity and fast paced walk. She loved to shop and give. Often, she’d take others shopping for clothes or other needs.

Mom was a born-again believer and worshipped at Christian Center with Dr. Lester Sumrall and later at New Life Fellowship Ministery with Apostle and Prophetess Charles and Betty Harris. During her past time, mom love to work on 1000 – 5000 piece beautiful box puzzles.

Preceding mom in death are her sons Leslie and Tom Nicholes, seven brothers, Vertiselle Woods, Wadell Woods, Albert Bernard Woods, James Woods, Jr. Ronald Woods, Lonnie Vern Woods, Sr., Gerald Woods and two sisters, Lillian A. Hopkins Chinn and Maxine E. Redd.

Mom is survived by daughters, Penny (Nicholes) Woods and Wendy (Nicholes) Lockett; a son, Henry Nicholes, Jr., five grandchildren-Chastity Patton, Rayford Lockett, Roman A. Woods, Michael (Alex) Woods and Amos L. Mom also had many friends who were dear to her heart including Brenda “Squeeky” McGee.

We the family of Geraldine Nicholes will have a life celebration in remembrance of mom at a later date to be announced.
