SOUTH BEND - Charles "Lobo" Yarbor, 84, of The Willows Nursing Home, Parkersburg, West Virginia, passed away January 9, 2012, in Parkersburg's Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus. Charles was born on August, 27, 1927, in Indianola, Mississippi, to the union of Ernest Yarbor and Pinkie (Hicks) Yarbor. As a child he came to South Bend, Indiana, and in 1952 united in Holy Matrimony to Marian Marguerite Burns.

He was a member of Grace A.M.E. Zion Church where he served in various capacities for more than 50 years, including as the Pastor's steward for finances.

Charles was a graduate of South Bend Central High School.

After graduation, he worked for Burns Dry Cleaners. He then worked for the South Bend City School Corporation until he retired. He was a founding member of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Retired Senior Men's Group and was a 3rd degree Master Mason. Charles was a charter member of the Highlighters Club, and was an avid league bowler. As an amateur bowler, Charles had the opportunity to bowl in a PBA tournament in South Bend. Charles was paired with a professional bowler and won the match with a score of 285.

Survivors who mourn his passing include his brother, Neal (Viola) Strong, formerly of South Bend, Indiana (now residents of Parkesburg, West Virginia), and numerous brothers and sisters, all of West Memphis, Arkansas. He is also survived by a nephew, Raymond Wallace, along with a host of other nephews and nieces.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Marian Marguerite Burns; a daughter, Marcia Denny; his parents, Ernest Yarbor and Pinkie (Hicks) Strong; and by a brother, Dr. Odis Strong. The family extends a special thank you to the Willows staff, Parkersburg, West Virginia, and to the staff at Camden Clark Medical Center.

The family request, in lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Retired Senior Men's Group. Services for Charles Yarbor will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, in Clark O'Neal Funeral Home Inc., 2702 Lincoln Way West. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and then service at 12 noon.
