SOUTH BEND - Sandra J. Stone, 59, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 1:37 p.m. Sunday, May 8, 2011, in the Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. She was born on July 15, 1951, in South Bend, IN, to the late Wilton and Juanita (Thomas) Stone. Sandra is survived by two daughters, Nikia "Nikki" Stone of South Bend, IN, and Juanita Jean (Jason Watkins) Richmond of Harvest, AL; six grandchildren, Alonzo Richmond Jr., Jasmine Williams, Jaetwana Williams, Jaequan "Froggy" Williams, Angel Watkins and Kelsea Stone; and one great-grandchild, John Gavin Jr. She is also survived by her stepmother, Elizabeth Stone of South Bend, IN; and four uncles, Merlin "Pat" Thomas of OH, Robert Thomas of OH, Charles Thomas of TX and Richard Thomas of OH; her special friend and caregiver, Rebecca Luchowski, and her family, Missy Kimberly and James Luchowski of South Bend, IN; and many cousins and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John E. Crowley and Melvin B. Crowley; and four uncles, David Thomas Jr., Donald Thomas, Melvin Thomas and Marvin Thomas.

Sandra formerly worked in housekeeping at the University of Notre Dame. She loved her family and supported her grandchildren in their activities and sporting events. She enjoyed playing basketball and was very talented.

She was a graduate of Linden Elementary School and Central High School. She was an avid cook, and a member of the Tough Riders Motorcycle Club where she was known by her nickname, "Knockout."

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Sandra J.
