Gladys C. Paczesny of Crownhill Drive, South Bend, died, Saturday, September 17, 2005, in St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, at 6:28 p.m., after a brief illness. She was born May 16, 1928 in South Bend, to Andrew Sr., and Rosa (Roth) Laure. She was a lifelong resident. On September 27, 1952, in St. Joseph's Church in South Bend, as Gladys C. Laure, she married Alfred J. (Bud) Paczesny, who died November 19, 1997. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Andrew Laure Sr. and Rosa (Roth) Laure; one brother, Andrew Laure, Jr.; and one sister, Vera Schmidt.

Surviving are her children, John A. (Judy) Paczesny of South Bend, IN, and Carolyn R. (Dan) Kasdorf of Pendleton, IN; one brother, George Laure of Kalamazoo, MI; one sister, Eleanore Reppert of Michigan City, IN; and five grandchildren, Gary Paczesny and Kevin Paczesny both of South Bend, and Liesl Kasdorf, Marah Kasdorf and Neeli Kasdorf all of Pendleton, IN. 

Gladys was a 1946 Graduate of Central High School and a 1949 Graduate of Holy Cross School of Nursing.

She was a Registered Nurse for 56 years, working as an office Nurse for L.G. Frith, M.D., an emergency room nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in South Bend, an office nurse for B.J. Roberts, M.D., and office nurse for John Powell, M.D., and an office nurse for Brian Moloney, M.D. Gladys was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Woodman of the World, and St. Joseph-Holy Cross Nurse Alumnae Association. She was the vice president of the Ladies of the Knights of Columbus #553.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2005, in Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a combined parish and Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Joseph's High School, Development Office, 1441 N. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN, 46617. The family would like to thank the staff of 6 North of St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center. "Our Mother received tender, loving care. They were wonderful. It is truly appreciated."
