JOYCE ANN (WHEATLEY) MCKENZIE

SOUTH BEND - Joyce Ann (Mimi) McKenzie passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at 12:20 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Central. Joyce was born on March 15, 1937, in South Bend, IN, to the late Lewellyn and Mildred Young Wheatley.

She graduated from South Bend Central High School.

Joyce married Robert McKenzie on November 19, 1955, in Niles, MI, and he preceded her in death on August 19, 2006. Joyce worked as a Medical Transcriptionist at Arnett Clinic for 16 years, and was also the Manager at City Newsstand on Main Street from 1969 to 1984. She was active with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, enjoyed reading, cooking and working.

Surviving are two children, Cheri McKenzie (companion, Jon Crose) of Lafayette, and Michael (wife, Aleta) McKenzie of Thorntown. Also surviving are one sister, Darlene (husband, Bill) Chambers of New Carlisle, IN; four grandchildren, Amanda, Emily, Zach and Asia McKenzie; and one great-grandchild, Bryant Cardwell. Also surviving are 2 brothers-in-law and 5 sisters-in-law, Fred McKenzie of Dallas, Texas, Curtis McKenzie (Sandy) of Niles, MI, Barbara Brookshier (Cliff) of Arvada, CO, Carole Anderson (Dean) and Margie Brentlinger of Granger, IN, Lorraine Bliley and Kathy Miller (Paul) of Mishawaka.

She was preceded in death by one son, Robert K. McKenzie.

Services will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the services at Simplicity Funeral Care, 1608 Schuyler Ave., Lafayette, IN, with Pastor Dwight Herin officiating.
