BETTY LOU (SCOTT) MALONE

SOUTH BEND - Betty Lou Malone was born December 24, 1930, to the union of Arthur Scott and Grace Catherine (Simmons) Scott in South Bend, IN. The Scott family has resided in South Bend for many years. Betty was one year old when the family relocated here from Cassopolis, MI, as a result of her father seeking work.

She attended Perley Elementary School and Central High School.

On January 23, 1957, Betty married Robert Malone in Chicago IL. Many momentous occasions, including the birth of their children, were produced from this 53-year union. Her life spanned years of prominent textbook history to include: The New Deal, the Civil Rights Movement, the first man on the moon, and the first African-American President whom she witnessed being inaugurated into office in Washington, D.C. Betty was employed in the healthcare industry and domestic work for many years.

Upon retiring she became a foster grandparent for Real Services, and loved it. Betty was a member of Grace A.M.E. Zion of South Bend, Indiana. Betty was known as a loveable person who loved to be around people, especially her siblings and her children and grandchildren. She loved each of them dearly; they were never really too far away.

She leaves to cherish her memory eight children, Demetrius Malone, Eddie Evans, Grace Malone, Barbara Ann Foster, Betty Jean Mavery and Florence (Brian) Jennings, all of South Bend, Daniel Malone of Louisiana and William Anderson of Milwaukee, WI. Her surviving siblings include Joyce Roberts, Marion Newbill and Edna Esters, all of South Bend; and one brother, Donald (Betty) Scott.

One daughter, Debra Anderson, preceded her in death in 2007. Her brothers Ollie, Kenneth and Robert Scott preceded her in death.

Also to cherish her memory are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of wonderful friends.

Services for Mrs. Betty Lou Malone will be held on Friday, June 4, 2010, in Greater Holy Temple Church Of God In Christ, 710 E. Napoleon Blvd, South Bend, IN. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow funeral service at Highland Cemetery. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
