WILLIE MAEFIELD

SOUTH BEND - Willie Maefield, 82, of South Bend, IN, departed this life on May 25, 2010 at Our Lady of Peace. Willie was born February 7, 1928, in Indianola, Mississippi, to the union of the late Willie Mayfield Sr., and Lula Strong (Davenport). Willie married Almeda Scott on April 17, 1947 and they had five children.

Willie attended Linden and Central High School.

He enlisted in the US Army December 22, 1947 and was honorably discharged. He was employed at Bendix until he became owner of his own restaurant, Maefield's Tavern. He was also a Mason. He loved to fish and spend quality time with the grand, great and great-great-grandchildren.

He leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Calvin Maefield of Las Vegas, Nevada, Willie Maefield III of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Melvin Maefield of South Bend, IN, and son-in-law, James Martin Sr., also of South Bend, IN. Daughters, Dottyann Maefield of South Bend and Willianna Martin, whom preceded him in death. Brothers, Ollie Mayfield of South Bend, In, Henry Mayfield of Peoria, IL. He has 21 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that loved him dearly.

Two brothers, Nathiel and Calvin Mayfield and two sisters, Gladys Smith and Rosie Bryant and a great-great grandchild, preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Mr. Maefield will be Tuesday, June 1, 2010 in the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincolnway West, South Bend. Visitation 11 a.m. and funeral service at noon. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with services.
