LUCY (LESTER) KUMINECZ

SOUTH BEND - Lucy Kuminecz, 87, died at 12:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in Hospice House. She was born on April 15, 1920, in Smith Falls, Ontario, Canada, to the late Dinah Belle (Percival) and John Marion Lester.

On April 24, 1937, she married Alfred Brown, who preceded her in death on July 24, 1961. On April 22, 1978, she married Kenneth Imus, who preceded her in death on January 23, 1982. On May 16, 1984, she married Joseph Kuminecz, who preceded her in death on April 6, 1987. Mrs. Kuminecz was also preceded in death by a brother, John E. Lester, who died on March 14, 1983, and a half sister, Betty Lester-Lehman.

Mrs. Kuminecz is survived by a son, Eric Alferd (Mary) Brown of South Bend; two granddaughters, Dianne Haberchak and Laura Tricoli; two great-grandsons, David Robert and Dominick Eric Di Palermo; three great-grandchildren, Shyanne, Giovanna and Roxanne; and a sister-in-law, Patsy Lester.

Mrs. Kuminecz was a clerical worker for the Mental Health Association of St. Joseph County. She was a very talented seamstress, crafts person and baker. An article appeared in the South Bend Tribune about the dollhouses she had made and she also made stuffed animals that were given away by police officers and at hospitals. On May 21, 2005, she received an award from President Bush for her many hours of volunteer work, over 9000 hours.

Mrs. Kuminecz was a graduate of South Bend Central High School and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Memorial services for Mrs. Kuminecz will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where friends may call from noon until service time. Cremation will take place in the Welsheimer Crematory. The family request that memorial contributions be made to the donor's choice.
