FRANCES M. (MUSZIK) ECKENRODE

Feb. 24, 1920 - Sept. 22, 2009
SOUTH BEND - Frances M. Muszik Eckenrode, 90, of South Bend and Harrisburg, PA, died in Harrisburg on September 22, 2009, following a brief illness. Frances was born in South Bend, graduated from Central High School and Memorial School of Nursing.

She worked as a registered nurse before marrying in 1944 Notre Dame student, Edward R. Eckenrode, Jr. (Bud). At the end of his world War II Navy deployment, the couple returned to Bud's hometown of Harrisburg, where together they raised five children. Frances and her husband maintained strong ties to South Bend family and to Notre Dame, making frequent visits, particularly during Notre Dame football season.

Frances was predeceased by her husband of 58 years; her two sisters, Helen Sieron (Las Vegas) and Theresa Voorde (South Bend).

Her survivors include brother, Paul Muszik (Anne) of Woodward Avenue, South Bend, a daughter, Nance E. Gaston of Harrisburg; and sons, Edward Jr. of Yellow Springs, OH, John of Ithaca, NY, Robert of Aliso Viejo, CA, and Andrew of Indian Habour, FL; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She is most remembered for her energy and spirit, her generosity, and her devotion to her family and her Catholic Faith.
