GERALDINE (SHAW) CRUMLEY

July 6, 1935 - May 23, 2012
SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Geraldine (Gerry) Crumley, 76, of South Bend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the Hospice House with her loving family comforting her throughout a decade long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Gerry was born a coal miner's daughter in Harco, IL on July 6, 1935 to the late Marvin and Mary Helen (Smith) Shaw.

After graduating from South Bend Central High School, Gerry worked as an accountant at Wyman's Department Store in South Bend. Gerry enjoyed gardening, home decorating and was an avid pet lover. She would always take in a stray animal until she could find it a good home. Gerry was strong-willed, compassionate, and extremely proud of her close knit family and their home that she impeccably maintained.

Gerry married James Robert Crumley over 58 years ago on December 28, 1953 in Tazewell, TN. Surviving husband Jim was born in Jonesville, VA and met Gerry in South Bend through mutual friends. Gerry was very attentive, nurturing, and supportive of her surviving two children and five grandchildren: her daughter, Cindy (Kenny) Montgomery of Mishawaka; grandsons, Ryan Montgomery of Mishawaka and Eric Montgomery of South Bend; her son, Craig (Nancy) Crumley grandson Scotty (Jamie) Crumley of Scottsdale, AZ, grandson James Crumley and granddaughter Molly Crumley of South Bend. One sister, Linda (Jerry) Wood of Florence, AL, also survives.

Visitation will be Friday, May 25, 2012 from 4:30 to 7:30 pm at McGann Hay Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Road). Gerry's funeral to celebrate her life will be at 10:00 am Saturday, May 26, 2012, also at McGann Hay Granger Chapel with blessings from Brother Ed Erskin, Pastor of Northway Church of Christ.
