Frances Geraldine Kuharic Mayerhofer

Frances Geraldine Kuharic was born on 7 Dec. 1919 in the home of her Aunt Rosie and Uncle Bob Babcock, located at 1214 So. 15th street (now 33rd street), South Bend, Indiana.

Frances grew up in the River Park neighborhood of South Bend. Her parents home was located at 924 30th street. In June of 1939 she graduated from Central High School and in August of that same year she began her studies at the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing Education, located in Mishawaka, Indiana.

After graduation, as a registered nurse, Frances began her career at St. Joseph's Hospital and worked her way up to supervisor of nurses. Later, after her marriage, she took a position in the office Dr. Charles Mahank.

On 7 June 1947 Frances married George Mayerhofer, Jr. They were married at St. Monica's Catholic church in Mishawaka. Frances and George had 4 children; Ivan Frank, Rose Ellen, Cynthia Ann and Veronica Sue. Sadly, Ivan died at the age of 3 years and 7 months from a form of kidney cancer.

By the mid 1960's Frances and George divorced and Frances and her 3 daughters moved in with her parents. Later, Frances moved to a home on 13th street in Mishawaka, to be near her sister Rose. In her later years, Frances resided at the 100 Center Hi-Rise, also in Mishawaka. She never re-married.

Frances Geraldine (Kuharic) Mayerhofer died on 21 Feb. 1996 at the age of 76.
