JOHN E. KNOX

John E. Knox Nov. 11, 1930 - Oct. 2, 2014 SOUTH BEND - John E. Knox, 83, of South Bend, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2014, at Courtyard Nursing Home, Goshen, IN. John was born November 11, 1930, in Elkhart, to the late Frank and Ruth (Konneck) Knox.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael, and three brothers, Tom, Bill and Frank Knox.

On Oct. 22, 1955, he married Janet Mott, who survives. John is also survived by his daughter, Linda (Celestino) Lopez of South Bend, granddaughter, Mallory Lopez of Madison, WI, sister, Arlene Thompson of Nashville, TN, and brother, Jerry (Tammy) Knox of Mishawaka.

John attended Ardmore School, South Bend Central High School, and the University of Florida. John was a proud Marine, serving during the Korean War, receiving the Purple Heart and other medals.

He was always grateful to the V.A. and D.A.V. for their advice and medical assistance. For many years, John was a Life and Disability Insurance Sales Manager and Sales Representative covering a three-state area. Along the way he worked two years as assistant manager at Elbel Golf course, and two years as a sales representative at New York Carpet stores. John was always thankful to the many people he met over the years. He was always proud of his daughter Linda, who helped with his medications and home care. He also was proud and enjoyed over the years his sons' knowledge and interest in outer space and love of wildlife. John was a member of D.A.V., Indiana Combat Vets, and Elbel Men's Club.

Visitation will be held 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2014, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. There will be no service. Private burial will take place at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to South Bend Junior Golf.
