Bob Carlyle Temple - Class Of 1946 VIEW PROFILE

Bob Carlyle Temple

ROBERT C. TEMPLE

Robert C. Temple Feb. 15, 1928 - Dec. 19, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Bob was born on February 15, 1928, in Alton, IL, and was a longtime resident of South Bend.

He graduated from Central High School in 1946, where he played basketball for John Wooden.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-48, and was a member of their All-Star basketball team. On August 27, 1949, he married the love of his life, Gertrude (Gertie) Major, also from South Bend. They were married for 65 years. After playing basketball for Western Michigan University, Bob and his wife returned to South Bend, where he began his career in construction (member of Carpenters Local #413), and retired in 1988 as General Superintendent for Holladay Corporation. He then donated his expertise as Secretary of the Township Board of Zoning Appeals and was an active member of Michigan Lakes and Streams Association. Always "family first," Bob built a home on the lake where he and Gertie used to swim while they were dating, and instilled a love for their special place among his children and grandchildren. He touched the lives of everyone he met with his integrity, kindness, wisdom and wit. He will be in our hearts forever.

Bob is survived by Gertie and their two daughters, Jan Temple (Tom Kuhn) and Gerry Temple, and his grandchildren, Scott Temple Sortal (Sara), Brett Sortal (Cynthia), Peter Lovato, Robert Temple Lovato and Anna Kuhn.

Memorial services will be for the immediate family only. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.
