Edna Mae Barrett, 87, of Mishawaka, IN went to be with her Lord on Friday, April 22, 2016 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Edna was born on November 14, 1928 in South Bend, IN to the late Frank and Philomeen (VanVlasselaer) Daniels. On May 12, 1950 in South Bend, she married William E. Barrett, who preceded her in death on May 4, 1988.

Edna is survived by her daughters, Linda M. (Robert) Poyser of Indianapolis and Carol A. (Phillip) Hite of South Bend; her son, David A. Barrett of Peru, IN; seven grandchildren, Samantha Jester, Jessica Poyser, Andrea Parrish, Sara Hite, Lauren Hite, Kayla Brown and David Roye; six great-grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Macon, Kaelyn, Avery and Jenna Jester, and Dreson Brown. She is also survived by her sister, Judith Cook of South Bend; her brother, James Daniels of Springfield, MO; and nieces, Sheryl Cook and Sandy Chaffee. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Norman Daniels.

Edna graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1948 and was proud to be a Central Bear all of her life. Edna was employed by the River Park Church of Christ, retiring after 13 years of service. She enjoyed playing the Hawaiian guitar, the organ and watching Lawrence Welk and Dennis Morgan movies. She was infamous for her potato salad and snicker doodle cookies. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.

First and foremost came her family, including her grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces. Her faith and dedication to the Lord matured as the years went by culminating with the relationships she forged with the staff and residents at Signature Healthcare.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and Signature Healthcare for their loving care and concern.

 

Per Edna’s wishes, there will be no services. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in South Bend. Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
