Roy J. Lawton

Roy Jasper Lawton, 79. was born on Oct. 14, 1923, and died after a lengthy illness on Friday, Dec 27 in Healthwin Hospital Known to some as “Spar” or “Jappy,” he was born to Jasper H. and Martha M Lawton, who preceded him death along with three brothers, James H.. Dr Edward A. and Louis J.. and by a sister, Anne. Roy has one surviving brother, John V. (Marilyn) of South Bend, Ind. 

Roy graduated from Central High School in 1942, then served as an aviation radioman in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 After World War Il he graduated from the University of Denver in 1951 with an accounting degree.

Spar married Cam J. Marvin in November 1955 and they had three sons. Brian 'Duke" of Buchanan, Mich.. Gerald of South Bend and Steve of New York City. N.Y. Roy was then remarried to Doris Sikora in December 1976. Doris has three daughters. Dotty of Fort Wayne, Ind., Christine of Genca. IL., and Kathie (Doug) Bailey of South Bend: and one son, Robert (Merrthbethe) of Goshen, Ind.

Roy began an accounting partnership with Herm Kruggel of Kruggel Lawton 8 Associates in 1972. retiring in 1992. Roy then enjoyed playing golf as a member of Knollwood Country Club and spending time with family and 12 grandchildren. Roy was also active with Renew. Inc.

Memorial contributions may be made to Renew. Inc.. and to Harbor Lights Hospice. Visitation will be in the Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m., where a Rosary will be said at 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Christ the King Catholic Church, with burial following at St. Joseph Valley Cemetery.
