SOUTH BEND - Gloria Beyrer of Libertyville, IL, died February 24, 2009, in Fort Myers, FL. Gloria Barbara Beyrer, 81, beloved wife of 59 years to John. She was born September 22, 1927, in Memphis, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth R. and Inez Hawthorne, and by her brother, Kenneth E.
She was raised in South Bend, IN, and graduated from Central High School. She also attended the University of Iowa. She married John M. Beyrer in 1949 and had resided in Libertyville with him since 1970.
Loving mother of John K. (Cynthia), who preceded her in death, Sharon of Waukegan, David (Diana) of Hoffman Estates and Douglas (Sandra) of Gurnee. Proud grandmother of Kristy, Shaun, Ryan, Alexa, Jared, Amanda, Hannah, Ethan and Joseph; cherished great-grandmother of Alyssa and Ashton.
She lived a life of extraordinary faith and was a dear friend and blessing to many. She exemplified how to live life with love, grace, dignity and humor. She served lovingly for 32 years in the Christian Education Office of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Charitable work included St. Joseph soup kitchen, PADS, Winchester House Crisis Line, and Meals on Wheels.
Visitation Friday, March 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. in McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 131 E. Maple Avenue, Libertyville. Interment at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville. Donations may be made to the St. Joseph Church Food Panty if desired in memory of Gloria Beyrer, and mailed to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Attn: Sue Slesnick, 121 East Maple, Libertyville, IL 60048.
