Mitchell J. Kazmierzak

SOUTH BEND - Mitchell J. Kazmierzak, 89, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, in Country Care West. Mitchell was born November 20, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Lillian (Kukla) Kazmierzak. Mitchell was also preceded in death by brothers, Clement, Paul and Julius Kazmierzak, and sister, Harriet Hoover.

On March 1, 1945, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Mitchell married Eleanor Juliann (Jagodzinski), who survives along with their sons, David (Susan) and Michael (Karen); grandchildren, Brian (Susan), Eric (Jillian), Stephanie and Justin; great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Mason, Grace and Lily; and sister-in-law, Dorothy.

Mitchell honorably served his country in the United States Army during WW II. He attended Purdue and Notre Dame University and he was a member of the Who's Who, IPM and IAN. Mitchell's work was his life; he was an accomplished horticulturist who started and grew many of his own plants. Mitchell was the Founder of Mitchell Nursery and Mitchell & Sons Garden Center and he partnered in the Frepan Floral Shop. Mitchell also was the past President of the Indiana Association of Nurserymen. He was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where he was the Director of Religious Education.

Visitation for Mitchell will be 11:30 am to 12:30 pm Friday, August 2, 2013, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 3526 St. Johns Way, South Bend, Indiana 46628. The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to Vel and Robert Nielsen of Country Care West for the wonderful care they gave Mitchell during his final days.
