Richard William Hawkins, 68, of 626 S. 24th St., died at 9:20 p.m. Friday in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Hawkins was a machinist for Torrington Manufacturing Co. before retiring in 1979. He was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Mishawaka, and lived in this area all his life. On July 3, 1948, in South Bend, he married Jean E. Wingett, who survives with a son, Richard W, Jr. of Findlay, Ohio; two grandsons; and a sister, Helen M. Lung of South Bend. 

Services will be at 7 p.m. today at Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., where friends may call from 3 p.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. Mr. Hawkins was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of River Park Fishermen's Club and the Torrington Retirees. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
