SOUTH BEND - Nancy J. Lantz, 75, residing in South Bend, passed away at 11:18 a.m. Sunday, December 11, 2011, in Healthwin Hospital. She was born July 12, 1936, in Mishawaka, to the late Myrl and Louella (Gearhart) Boggs.
Nancy is survived by four children, Christine (Olmstead) Kanczuzewski, South Bend, IN, Kay (Olmstead) Friedlander, Aragon, GA, Sharon (Olmstead) Nolan, Goldens Bridge, NY, Paul Olmstead, Saint Joseph, MI; and fourteen grandchildren. She was preceded in death by former husbands, Paul Olmstead and Walter Lantz; daughter, Julie Tursi; sisters, Muriel Olmstead, Vivian Crane; and granddaughter, Kristel Kanczuzewski.
Nancy lived in Mishawaka, Indiana, her entire life. She was a graduate of Central High School and retired from the State of Indiana where she was employed as a data processor. She was very active in the Methodist Church and spent many hours in Bible study. Our mother was a very compassionate person with a great sense of humor. She always had time to listen and was very wise in her advice. She loved animals, especially her two West Highland Terriers, McDuff and Casey. She was an avid reader of anything from romance novels to history (with a cup of coffee in her hand and a dog on her lap).
On many days you could find her walking her dogs around the lake beside her home and enjoying nature, or outside planting flowers in her garden. Our mother also liked spending time on her computer playing mystery problem-solving games and Black Jack. By the computers account she was a multimillionaire. The truth is, we grew up without monetary wealth but we never felt poor. We always knew we had everything we needed, her unconditional love and the unconditional love of our God which she taught us. One of our mother's true blessings was that of her partner, Dan "Danny" Brunner. She met Danny over eight years ago and received much love and compassion from him before, and especially after her illness. My mother and our family are very grateful for Danny and will always consider him part of our family. Thank you Danny, we love you. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Funeral services for Nancy will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2011, in Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46637. Rev. Warren Kirkwood of Albright United Methodist Church will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
