MARK WISEN, MD

Mark Wisen, M.D. Age 70, of Bloomington, Indiana, died Saturday afternoon, May 7, 2005 at his residence. He was born July 23, 1934 in Lublin, Poland, the son of Pinkum and Olga (Waldean) Wisen. He and his mother, who died in 1997, survived the Holocaust and emigrated to South Bend, Indiana in 1950. They had been rescued from a Displaced Person's Camp by Olga's cousin, Frederick Baer, Esq. of South Bend, a Nuremberg prosecutor, who had taken the job so that he could search for relatives that had survived the Shoah.

He graduated from South Bend Central High School, Indiana University, Bloomington, and the Indiana University School of Medicine.

After serving as a neurologist in Germany for the U.S. Army, he started private practice in California and moved to Bloomington, Indiana in 1975.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Hanes Wisen; and children, David Paul Wisen of Santa Monica, California, Craig Hanes Wisen of Fairbanks, Alaska, Matthew Lee Wisen of Bloomington and Laura Ann Wisen of Bloomington. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Luke, Samantha, Zachar, Abigail, William and Katrina.

Memorial services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at Congregation Beth Shalom with Rabbi Mira Wasserman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Disease Foundation, in care of Allen Funeral Home, 3000 E. Third St., Bloomington, IN 47401.
