Ruth Adams (Morton) - Class Of 1956

Ruth Adams Morton

March 17, 1938 - Jan. 12, 2019

SCHEREVILLE, IN - Ruth Morton, 80, of Schererville, Indiana passed away Saturday, January 12 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana. Ruth was born on March 17, 1938 in South Bend, Indiana. She is the beloved daughter of the late Ernest and Gladys Reed (Adams). Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Ralph Morton of Schererville, IN; son, Rafael Morton of South Bend, IN; grandson, Quentin Barber of Oakland, CA; her sister, Dell Ames of South Bend, IN; her brother, Jack Reed (Mary) of South Bend, IN, as well as a host of relatives and friends. Always strong-willed and outspoken, Ruth achieved plenty and helped many people on her journey. After graduating from Central High School, she moved to Chicago, Illinois to start a successful sales career at Montgomery Ward. She then went on to further her education by obtaining a degree in Business and Administration from Kennedy King College in Chicago. After receiving this advanced degree, she began working as a paralegal for several law firms in the Downtown Chicago area primarily handling personal injury cases. Subsequently, because of her experience in the personal injury business, she was able to invest in and ultimately become the owner of Riorton Chiropractic Clinic of Chicago, Illinois. Ruth was also very involved in the community of the south side of Chicago; whether it was ensuring children had computers or connecting the dots to support critical initiatives, you could always count on Ruth to say or do whatever was necessary to make things happen.

She spent countless hours as an administrator for several homeless shelters in the Chicagoland area. Her tireless efforts in reaching out to many food and clothing vendors in the suburban Chicago area over the years enabled her to develop lifelong business and personal friendships. Those business relationships ultimately allowed her to help many people over the years.

To those that know her, Ruth was a person who would give you the clothes off her back, but you better believe that she would tell you how to wear those clothes correctly!

While she was very committed to her professional career and helping people, Ruth always made it a priority to put her family first. Her greatest joy in this life was her son Rafael and her grandson Quentin. Nobody could bring a smile to her face like these two.

We will always remember this open-hearted and opinionated angel. And while she is probably somewhere telling the rest of the angels secret cooking recipes and tricks to keep things tidy, her spirit will always live in our hearts.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1862 N. Olive St., South Bend, IN. Visitation with the family to be held an hour before the services.
