Frank C. Ieraci

Jan. 9, 1935 - Jan. 14, 2019

SOUTH BEND, IN - The world has lost a kind and talented gentleman, and heaven has gained an angel this week. Surrounded by his loving family, Frank Charles Ieraci, age 84, passed away peacefully in his home on January 14, 2019, after a brief illness. Frank was born to the late Joseph Philip and Josephine Clara (Campiti) Ieraci on January 9, 1935, in Follansbee, WV. At a young age, Frank and his family moved to the South Bend area where he resided for the remainder of his life.

In 1954, he graduated from Central High School. While at Central, he joined the wrestling team and qualified to wrestle in the state tournament for three consecutive years, winning the State Wrestling Championship in 1953. Frank, armed with a college wrestling scholarship went on to graduate in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business at Indiana University, Bloomington. In 1984, the state of Indiana honored Frank with an induction into the Indiana Wrestling Hall of Fame. This was something Frank, as well as his family was very proud of. In addition to his achievements on the mat, Frank shared these skills at St. Anthony's Catholic School where he volunteered as a wrestling coach.

After graduating from college, Frank spent many nights out dancing and showing off his debonair good looks, and cool dance moves. This is where he met Roselene (Rosi) Pappas and together they took many turns on the dance floor during their courtship. They were married on June 2, 1962, and celebrated the birth of four beautiful children. Over the years, they remained friends and continued to celebrate many holidays together.

After 39 successful years as a State Farm Agent, Frank made the decision to retire in 2003. This allowed Frank the time to explore his other passions and hobbies in life. Frank was a lifetime avid outdoorsman, and found his passion for fishing and hunting at a young age with his brother. He made sure to pass along his knowledge and experience to his children, and 3rd generation grandchildren. This interest carried over to his love of painting wildlife and outdoor images. Oftentimes, Frank created his own greeting cards for Christmas and gifted loved ones with his art. He always stayed busy with various projects and enjoyed hosting annual holiday meals at his beautiful family home. He knew how to set an impeccable, beautiful dinner table and always served his special Italian salad that everyone looked forward to. Up until the time of his illness, Frank was very active with gardening, even tilling his own garden by hand and enjoying his abundant tomatoes every year. During his quieter moments, Frank enjoyed a challenging puzzle and reading books about history, especially World War II. Throughout his life, Frank always worked hard, was willing to help others, and enjoyed the simple things in life. His most prized possession was the love and respect of his family.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Clara Young; brother, James Ieraci; and infant grandson, Ryan. Surviving Frank is his sister, Rosemary Coomes of South Bend, IN; his children, Tristi (Michael) Matzuka of Saint Charles, IL, Anthony (Amanda) Ieraci of South Bend, IN, Trent (Brigette) Ieraci of Mishawaka, IN, and Troy (Samantha) Ieraci of South Bend. He is also survived by ten wonderful grandchildren: Michael, Rachel, Zachary, Zoe, Marisa, Tristino, Michael, Dilano, and Rocco; and one great-grandchild, Elijah. Frank is also survived by his nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. The family wishes to thank the Hospice House for all of their help and guidance during this painful time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Indiana Wrestling Hall of Fame. A Celebration of Life will be held at Kaniewski Funeral Homes, Inc. 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN 46628. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 19 with services immediately following.
