Bette J. Duiker 1926 - 2018
Springfield, IL—Bette J. Duiker, 92, of Springfield, took flight to heavenly realms at 10:09 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2018.
She was born on October 29, 1926, in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of Haskell A. and Helen A. Glidden Drymon. She married Wesley J. Duiker on December 28, 1951, in Conrad, MT; he preceded her in death on July 23, 2015.
Bette graduated from Central High School in South Bend, Indiana in 1944 and earned her bachelor's degree in History from SSU as a late in life student. Bette was a life-long member of the Baha'i Faith, serving on two national committees and for 20 years on the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Springfield, Illinois. She was a charter member of Springfield's Cachet Club, a 25-year volunteer at the Dana Thomas house and a member of Spirit Matters Women's Writing Group.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and son, Paul V. Duiker, as well as her sister Audrey Holsinger.
Bette is survived by her sons, Vernon E., and Timothy J. Duiker; two daughters, Kathryn R. Robbins and Sarah B. Duiker; five grandchildren, Liane (Jason) Stearns, Lydia Dallal (Mat), Jon (Brandi) Trompeter, and Rachel and Wyatt Duiker; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Rodney (Catherine) Drymon, and Corrine (Earl) Christensen; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 a.m. on Sunday, November 18, 2018, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. A funeral ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. conducted by the Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Springfield.
Burial will follow at Farmington Cemetery.
