SOUTH BEND, IN - On October 1, 2018, Lorene Richardson completed her earthly journey and has now joined the choir of angels. She was born in South Bend, Indiana, the oldest of three children of the late Lucinda and James Richardson. She was predeceased by her sister, Willie Mae Mann and is survived by her brother, Samuel and his wife, Rosalie, in addition to her nieces and nephews and their families, her cousins in the Lottie family, and a host of friends in South Bend and Chicago.

Lorene's passion was music. As a child, she sang in the choir at Olivet AME Church and was a member the Glee Club at South Bend Central High School. She was one of the first African Americans to be employed at Robertson's Department Store in South Bend where she worked in the music department.

While still in her teens, Lorene moved to Chicago to explore employment opportunities. She was employed in the Science Department of the University of Chicago.

Following her love of music, she auditioned for and became a member of the renowned Chicago Symphony Chorus. With the chorus, she sang in concert halls throughout Europe and in the United States in addition to performing in many venues in the Chicago area. Additionally, she sang in various houses of worship during holiday celebrations.

In accordance with Lorene's wishes, there were no formal services. Her family asks that you remember Lorene in your thoughts and prayers.
