June 16, 1927 - Oct. 20, 2017 Frank Jackson was born June 16, 1927 in Mound City, IL, the third of four boys, lsiah, Roosevelt and Felix, Jr. During his early childhood, the family moved to South Bend IN. In 1942, Frank graduated from Central High School and four years later joined the United States Army. In 1948 Frank received an Honorable discharge and made his way to California where he met and married Ora Lee Shaw. They began their family with the addition of daughter Bonnie. Frank initially found an apartment in the city of Benicia due to the racial restrictions that existed in the city of Vallejo at that time. Frank worked within the Federal systems for more than 40 years, beginning with stints at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Fort Miley Veterans Hospital, Travis Air Force Base and concluding at the Oakland Naval Air Station. In 1993, Frank found a new love in his life and married Hope Turk. Frank was a life member of NAACP and served as the President of the Vallejo Branch from 1990 to 2002. His work in the Vallejo Community was acknowledged from the City level to the State and beyond. Catholic prayer service will be Monday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m., at Skyview Funeral Chapel, 200 Rollingwood Drive, Vallejo. Frank will be laid to rest at All Souls Cemetery.
