Eugene Forsythe

May 26, 1949 ~ January 23, 2024 (age 74)

Eugene “Gene” Forsythe, 74, a lifelong South Bend resident passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving friends, Tom and Mary Lou Davis, on Tuesday January 23, 2024 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Gene was born on May 26, 1949 in Hammond, IN to the late Eugene Forsythe and Catherine (Mahoney) Szabo.

Gene graduated from South Bend Central High School, spent two years at Grand Rapids Junior College and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Western New Mexico University, Silver City, New Mexico and had a career in Real Estate and property management.

Gene is remembered by Shar Sosh and many other close friends and acquaintances.

Gene loved fishing with his dad, and in his adult life would go on fishing trips with the Green Star group on Lake Erie. He loved pheasant hunting and golfing with his friends. Gene and Joe Basker coached the Basker Bears flag football team while winning a lot of championships and leaving the team players with many good memories.

Gene would attend his friend’s weddings dressed in his white long sleeve shirt, Sansabelt pants, wing tip shoes and request his favorite song and the crowd would stand back and watch him dance. His shenanigans will be missed.

A memorial visitation for Gene will be held from 2pm-4pm on Saturday February 17, 2024 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend. In lieu of flowers, Gene requested any memorial donations in his name be made to the Wounded Warrior Project charity. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S.
