Patsi Gwen (Hackney) Hartz departed this life on December 21, 1999. She was born July 4, 1942, in Mounds City, Illinois, to Ralph Hack-ney, Sr., who preceded her in death, and Ruth (Hack-ney) Starr. Her early years were spent in Cleveland, Ohio, and in 1948 she moved with her family to South Bend, Indiana, where she attended the South Bend public schools and graduated from South Bend Central High School. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age at the Saints Memorial (Liberty Street) Church of God in Christ. She later attended the Faith Baptist Church of South Bend, Indiana. She worked at the Healthwin Hospital as a Qualified Medical Assistant for 25 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory a loving mother, Ruth Starr of Indianapolis, IN; stepfather, John Henry Starr of South Bend, IN; three daughters, Deanna Hartz of South Bend, IN, Carmen Jennings and Dacia Hartz of Indianapolis, IN; two sons, Johnny (Darlene) Quinn of Indianapolis, IN, Terry Hartz of Grand Rapids, MI; four sisters, Loretta (Bill) Avance of South Bend, IN, Teresa Hackney and Dori Smith of Milwaukee, WI, Darlene Hackney of Cleveland, OH; seven brothers, Ralph (JoAnn) Hackney, Jr., Allen (Diana) Smith of Milwaukee, WI, Robert (Fannie) Hackney, Maurice (Addie) Hackney of South Bend, IN, Theodore Smith of Indianapolis, IN, Donald (Donna) Hackney, Darrell Hackney of Cleveland, OH; twelve grandchildren, Monte' Hartz, Richard Davis, Tyrone Hartz, Terrance Moore, Raphael Carr, Quintin and Cherelle Diggins, Shadawn Quinn, Twana Berkley, Lancya Berkley, and Jasmine Jennings and Brent Hartz; and three great grandchildren, Monteris Hartz, Jamiroquai Hartz and Jaziona Quinn; seven uncles, Elder Cleophus (Daisy) Austin, Elder Leamon (Mildred) Austin, Everett ''Speedy'' (Alice) Austin, LaVell (Heidi) Austin, William Austin, Roy Austin, Orvester (Mary Jane) Austin; three aunts, Mable Alford, Beatrice (Bishop Jimmy) Quinoines, Mary P. Austin; one stepuncle, Jewel (Connie) Starr. She is further survived by twenty-three nieces and nephews; a very special niece, Galaine Hackney of Milwaukee, WI; and a host of great-grand nieces and nephews, very special cousins and friends. A very special brother, Anthony Griffith of Indianapolis, IN. Special friends, Rose White, Effie Rodgers, Mary Alice (Bashay) Flowers and Mrs. Kish, Patty Malone, Mildred Gadson and Dorothy Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Hackney, Sr.; and one son, Richard Hartz; and paternal grandmother, Emma Tread-well; maternal grandparents, Elder Grandberry and Bessie Austin; and special nephew, Kenneth Hackney; and Uncle Jimmy ''Duke'' Austin; and cousins, Sherry Alford and Rodney Austin.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 27, 1999, at 1:00 p.m. at the Pentecostal Cathedral Church of God in Christ. Viewing will be held at Alford's Mortuary on Sunday, December 26, 1999, from 4 to 9 p.m. Alford's Mortuary has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.
