Barbara Jean Daly was born in South Bend, Indiana on July 21, 1924, the eldest child of Nellie R. and James A. Daly. She had one brother, James V. Daly, who died in 2003. Barbara attended Holy Cross Elementary School and South Bend Central High School. Following high school, Barbara worked for the Bendix Corporation in South Bend.

In 1950, Barbara married Francis X. Duggan, a graduate of Notre Dame, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Bend. They had four children. In 1962, Frank accepted a teaching position at Santa Clara University, and the couple moved to California. Barbara was active in the Notre Dame Bridge group, the Santa Clara University Faculty Wives' Club, and was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church choir for many years. She loved music and dancing, and true to her roots, she was also an avid Notre Dame Football fan. In the 1970s, Barbara worked as a volunteer for the Village House in Los Gatos, a charitable organization benefitting the Ming Quong Orphanage.

Barbara passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 8, 2016, with her husband at her bedside. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family and all those who knew her well will miss her kindness and selflessness, and her laughter most of all. Barbara is survived by her husband, Frank; sons Michael Sean Duggan and Father Kevin Francis Xavier Duggan; daughters Barbara Marie Duggan and Ann Catherine Duggan; and granddaughters, Catherine and Madeleine Haddad.

A visitation will be held at Darling Fischer Memorial Chapel, 231 E. Campbell Avenue, in Campbell, California from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15th, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, April 16th at 1:30 p.m. at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 2350 Winchester Blvd., Campbell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Barbara's name to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
