Kenneth J. Hayes

Kenneth J. Hayes “Pops”, 76, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 07, 2024. Ken was born on February 19, 1948 in South Bend, to the late Keith and Margaret (Kruszewski) Hayes.

On October 22, 1977, Ken married the love of his life, Patricia (Young) Hayes. She survives along with their sons, James Hayes, Robert (Dawn) Hayes, Kenny (Angela) Hayes II; grandsons, Shelby (Danielle Burus) Hayes, Colin Carter; and sister, Linda (Thomas) Michalski.

Ken served his country in United States Navy.

He was a former parishioner of Our Lady of Hungary and current parishioner of St. Adalbert Parish. As a 2nd generation Glazier for over 35 years, Ken was a retiree of the Glaziers Local Union 1165 and worked for various construction companies. He loved his wife of 47 years and time spent with her meant everything to him. They enjoyed working on home improvement projects, yard work, traveling, and dancing. During their younger years, they hosted weekend parties with family and friends. Ken was an active, present dad, coaching little league and participating with everything the boys were involved in. He loved his sons and offered great guidance and support, always extending a helping hand over the years. Ken also loved his grandsons Shelby and Colin, sharing a special interest in cars with Shelby, and a love for music with Colin. One of Ken’s fondest memories was spending the day fishing with his dad and father-in-law. He enjoyed classic cars and restored his 1969 Mach 1 Mustang. Ken treasured his lifelong friendships with Bob Hoofnagle, Jerry Miltenberger, and Joe Focosi considering them as brothers.

Visitation for Ken will be 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 with a Rosary to be prayed 4:30 pm, in St. Joseph Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 10:30 am in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, South Bend, with a visitation 9:30 am to 10:15 am in the Funeral Home.

Memorial Contributions in honor of Kenneth J. Hayes may be made to a Pet Shelter of Donor’s Choice. Online condolences can be made at sjfh.net.
