SOUTH BEND - God has chosen to take Patricia Sue (Skinner) Kessick, Friday evening, December 28, in St Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.
Patricia was born Dec 30, 1942, in Hicksville, Ohio, to the late Richard Dale and Miriam Jean (Welch) Skinner. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her stepfather, William E. Hardy, and brother, David Dale Skinner. Blessed with a gifted voice, she sang in Coldwater, Michigan, at age 8 at a club called "Lindy's."
Her family moved to South Bend in 1951 and she attended Pearly and James Madison grade school. At Central High, she was a "BarnStormer," a member of the marching band and Majorette. Graduating in 1960, she joined the U.S. Navy. On September 18, 1992, as Patricia Sue Smart, she married Delwyn Kessick, who survives.
Also left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Shannon Cathleen (Mark) Geil of Orange Park, FL, Victoria Sue (Tom) Trent of Muskogee, OK; sons, David Dale Smart of Horseshoe Bend, AR, and Darrell Patrick (Susan) Smart, also of Muskogee, OK. Grandchildren, Sarai (Jeff) Bensinger of Jacksonville, FL, Christopher Trent, Carson and Kanyon Smart of Muskogee, OK; and great-grandchild, Olivia Rose Bensinger. Surviving siblings include Richard Lee (Shirley) Skinner, William John (Brenda) Skinner of Niles, MI, and Linda Kay (Michael) Coburn of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Surviving stepchildren, included are stepsons, John (Laura) Kessick, Roy and Kelly Kessick, & stepdaughters, Kris Kessick, Kim (Mark) Kessick, and six nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kessick was a member of Queen's Peace Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 Friday, Jan 4th, at Queen's Peace Catholic Church, to be followed by a memorial luncheon in the church hall, sponsored by the ladies of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society .
