SOUTH BEND - Betty J. Stump, of South Bend, formerly of Osceola, died on Sunday, July 10, 2016, following a lengthy illness. Betty was born on December 24, 1941, to Chester and Beatrice (Rosebaum) Hosimer in South Bend, Indiana. On August 20, 1966, Betty married Fred M. Stump at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, South Bend. Betty is survived by her loving husband and two loved children: a son, Sean Stump, and a daughter, Meghan (Thomas) Gebby, along with her two special boys, grandsons, Quinten Liggett and Andrew Liggett. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Elder, and a brother-in-law, Royce (Rosa) Stump. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Jack L. Elder. Betty graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1960 and from Ball State University in 1964. Following graduation from college, Betty taught at Navarre Elementary School. After her children were in school, she worked as a program assistant for Joint Services at John Young Middle School and Penn High School. After retirement, Betty worked part time in her dream job as a floral designer at Ehninger Florist in South Bend. Betty was a faithful member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mishawaka and an active member of the parish's St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was an avid reader, a gardener who took great pride in her many flower gardens, and she lovingly enjoyed a wide network of friends. The family expresses its sincere gratitude to the loving care givers from Home Instead and Sprenger Health Care. Memorial donations may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 520 Crescent Avenue, South Bend, IN 46617. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 13, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin Street, in Elkhart. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. John Eze on Thursday, July 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka, with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
