SOUTH BEND - Jerome Jay "Jerry" Hoffman, 68, passed away Wednesday at 2:40 a.m. in Healthwin Extended Care. Jerry was born in South Bend at the old Epworth Hospital (now known as Memorial) on March 21, 1942, son of the late Milton and Ida Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman is survived by his sister, Cecile Hoffman Berko (Malcolm) of St. Petersburg, FL, three nieces, one nephew, and several grandnieces and nephews.
He graduated from South Bend Central High and attended Indiana University. He owned and operated Hoffman's Auto Painting for several years, later retiring after 18 years as a supervisor with a commercial cleaning company. He was an avid sports fan, particularly Notre Dame and the Detroit teams. He was a very active volunteer at the College Football Hall of Fame, impressing many with his knowledge and entertaining presentations.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 30th, at 3 p.m. in the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel, 435 S. Ironwood at Jefferson, Rabbi Eric Siroka officiating. Burial will follow at Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka. Shiva will be observed at 7 p.m. at Temple Beth-El that evening.
