Ronald Charles Tohulka

Nov. 12, 1943 - May 29, 2019

Ron (Chuck) Tohulka, born Nov. 12, 1943, died May 29, 2019, and entered Heaven’s gate to meet his Savior face to face. He was born to Esther (Bergman) and Randal Tohulka the day after his father Randal left for the war. He married Marilyn Hertel, the girl who grew up across the street from him, on August 27, 1966, after dating her for 5 years.

Chuck graduated from Purdue with a B.S. in Industrial Management and a minor in Computer Science. Following graduation, he went to work at Bendix Aerospace, Miles Labs, Whirlpool, and Partners’ Health Plan as a project manager and systems analyst. In 1973, Chuck and two co-workers formed a corporation and opened the first catalog showroom in Kokomo, IN.

After 12 ½ years of marriage, Chuck and Marilyn adopted 3 little girls, Tammy Meuzelaar, Rhonda Johnson, and Crystal (John) Moskwinski. Four years after their adoption, Marilyn gave birth to their son, Adam. He and his wife, Amy have twin daughters, Addison and Ashlyn. In addition, there are grandchildren Jake and Makayla Meuzelaar, Deion, Zack, Sean, and Wes Johnson, and Randal, Joe, and Tim Workman. They also have a great-granddaughter, Bella Leisure.

Chuck enjoyed volunteering time after retiring at Habitat for Humanity Restore, the M.A.C. Food Pantry, Feed the Children, and the Studebaker Museum. He also enjoyed his hobbies: fishing, golfing, traveling, playing cards, camping, and going places with the grandkids. He was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, now called Covenant Community Church, where he was dedicated, confirmed, baptized, and married. He served on many boards there, as well as facilitating Sunday School classes and Bible Studies.

Chuck was a dedicated father, grandfather, husband, and friend. His smile lit up the room, and his giggle could usually be heard anywhere. He was a gentle, loving servant of God whose “gift of gab” and hospitality made him a most lovable and unforgettable human being. He will be sorely missed. Peace to his memory.

Visitation will be from 2:00 till 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend, 46616. A “Celebration of Life” service will take place at the Covenant Community Church, 3025 E. Edison Road, South Bend, IN 46615, at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2019. Memorial contributions may be made to Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN, 46545 or Covenant Community Church.
