Martin William “Bill” Kaniewski

Bill Kaniewski, 57, of McKinley Avenue, South Bend, died at his residence, Friday morning, November 16, after a short illness.
Bill was born August 4, 1944, in Louisville, KY, to Martin J. and Dorothy M. (Wiegand) Kaniewski. He lived most of his life in South Bend.
On April 28, 1979, Bill married Gisela Tervooren who survives. Also surviving is a son, Casey, and a daughter, Christie, both parents, a brother, Robert J. Kaniewski and his dog “Lucky” all of South Bend.
Bill was a sales representative for New Balance Athletic Shoes. He was a 1962 graduate of South Bend Central High School. He received both a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from Indiana University in Bloomington. He also taught in the South Bend School system. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic church and the I.U. Alumni Club.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 19, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street. A Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 308 S. Taylor Street, South Bend, on Tuesday, November 20, at 10 a.m. followed by interment at the Highland Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in memory of Bill may be made to the Bishop Crowley Education Fund, St. Matthew Cathedral School, 1015 E. Dayton Street, South Bend or to the St. Patrick Catholic Church, 308 S. Taylor St., South Bend.
