Professor Ernest R. Goforth, Jr.

August 20, 1943 ~ July 18, 2020 (age 76)

Professor Ernest R. Goforth, Jr., 76 of Austin, Texas, passed away on July 18, 2020. He moved to Texas from South Bend, Indiana in 2014.

Professor Goforth is survived by his brother, Charles Goforth, Sr.; niece, Nikki Johnson; and nephew, Charles Goforth, Jr. He was a great uncle to Daniel Johnson, Jacob Goforth, and Joseph Johnson.

Professor Goforth was one of the first students at IUSB in the fall of 1961. He received his bachelor's degree in 1966 and his master's degree in 1967. He taught in the mathematics department at IUSB as well as Southwest Michigan College for several years. He also taught grade school in the Brandywine School District for over 25 years before retiring.

Traveling was a hobby of Professor Goforth; he said that he has been from border to border and coast to coast, from Newfoundland to Tijuana. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, serving as chairman of the board of deacons. His favorite verse was John 3:16.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, August 7, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church, 3001 W. Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46628, with Pastor Reed Anderstrom officiating. Friends may be able to visit with the family starting a hour prior. The services will be livestreamed through the church's facebook page - Calvary Baptist Church. Graveside services and burial will follow in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, South Bend.
