Tait Grorud, 51, of Vandalia, Mich., died at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, shortly after emergency surgery in St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis, Ind.

Mr. Grorud was born on Nov. 26, 1947, in Bismarck, N.D., to Dr. Alton and Ruth (George) Gro-rud.

The Grorud family moved to South Bend, Ind., in 1950 where Tait attended Madison Elementary and the former Central High School. He continued his education at World Campus Afloat (Chapman College) and Indiana University where he received a B.S. degree in business management. While at Indiana University he affiliated with Chi Phi National Fraternity.

After working in California for 19 years, he returned to South Bend where he was a sales representative for Duro Art Industries, Inc. from 1995 to the present. Mr. Grorud attended the First United Methodist Church, South Bend.

He is survived by two sisters, Gail Grorud of South Bend and Ruth Hanson of Vandalia, Mich.; two brothers, Karl Grorud of South Bend and Rolf Grorud of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one niece, Dr. Lauren Hanson of New York City, N.Y.; four nephews, Lance Ross of Vandalia, Mark (Sarah) Grorud and Trent Grorud, both of Fort Wayne, and Dr. Rick Berg of San Diego, Calif.; and by many dear friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, with Dr. Ellwood K. Smith of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation will take place, with burial at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends may call from one hour before services on Friday in the funeral home.
