SOUTH BEND - Betty Jean Mazlo, 77 of South Bend passed away on Wednesday, October 12th at her residence.

She was born on October 26, 1938 in Mishawaka, IN to the late John and Florence (Scott) Mazlo. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Catherine Yost, Janette Smith and Julia Temple and her brothers, Gerald L. and Jack L. Mazlo.

Betty Jean is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lynn Mazlo and a brother-in-law, James Temple.

She was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area. Betty Jean had a love for all animals. She would take in wounded animals, nurse them back to health so they could be adopted. She loved eating food and had a name for herself when she was done eating and those of you who knew her, know the name. She also enjoyed fishing and was a big Notre Dame Football Fan.

Betty Jean liked to go to numerous clubs in the area to play Euchre (according to Hoyle).

Betty Jean was a one of a kind and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 16th from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” located at State Rd. 23/W. Ireland Rd., South Bend. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 17th at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Chaplin Trevor Foley officiating. Burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery, South Bend.

The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Volunteers at The Center for Hospice, South Bend for the compassionate care they gave Betty Jean.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 or Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnett Drive, South Bend, IN 46614.

The HANLEY and Sons Funeral Home handled arrangements, services and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Mazlo family.
